Porsche continued to develop its successful 911 to include a three-liter six-cylinder turbocharged version in 1975. Dubbed the 930, it was essentially a production version of the Carrera RSR racer. Years spent developing the 917 had not been wasted and the 930 was proof that Ferdinand Piech's guidance at the helm of Porsche's racing department was filtering its way down into useful technology on the street. The 930 was quite possibly the fastest car in America when it arrived in 1976. Zero-to-60 was achieved in less than five seconds and firmly planted Porsche on the super car map with a top speed of 156mph, an achievement previously reserved for race cars only. Engine displacement on the 1978-79 models grew to 3.3 liters and an air-to-air intercooler was added to boost horsepower output. After 1979, the 930 disappeared from U.S. showrooms, a consequence of the energy crisis. It would be seven years before Porsche would offer another turbocharged car in their North American showrooms, however many enthusiasts enlisted agents to help them import the European version.
This example is finished in stunning all-black with an impeccably-kept Champagne leather interior, this magnificent motorcar is among one of the finest examples we have ever had the opportunity to offer. It was delivered to the U.S. in January 1984 and has been driven just 18,782 miles from new. This Porsche has been meticulously maintained and garage kept; a recent complete service has been performed and this 930 drives and performs like new. It’s highly optioned and includes an electric sunroof, sport seats, special-ordered Champagne leather interior, factory alarm, limited slip differential, and much more. We are proud to offer what we believe to be one of the very best examples of a 930 Turbo on the market today for the collector, investor, or enthusiast who only wants the best. Classic cars have proven to be among the most resilient and rewarding investments in recent years with the Historic Automobile Group Index (HAGI) jumping 39% in 2013 and posting gains of 395-percent over the last 10-years.
