For sale - 1965 VW Westfalia SO33 subhatch camper, EUR 32,600
Up for sale now is my subhatch. Had this since 2017 and imported it myself from Washington state USA. It was a tourist import originally and ended up in Salt Lake City Utah. It was last on the road over there in 1995. I have loads of history for the Westy dating back to this and into the 80's and even to the 60's. The westy came to me in a poor but very original condition. Most of the bottom 6'' needed doing and the interior although all there had not been looked after. It is now sporting its original paint as it was green over white when I imported it which was a very poor overspray done in the 90's. The original paint is about 75% complete with the new metal being blended in. The body work I have had done to it is as follows.
Cab floor either side
both front wheel arches
front inner and outer valance
repairs to the B post and inner wheel arches.
inner and outer offside sills
rear front wheel arch
battery tray
inner nearside sill
all I beams
cargo floor
repairs to the box section on the chassis legs.
All this was done by a professional fabricator using Schofield panels.
Mechanically the following has been done
rebuilt top end 1600TP engine using new heads and pistons.
Refurbed carb
new coil, petronix ignition
Rebuilt original 1500 gearbox and reduction boxes by John Walklet
new clutch
new dual master cyclinder, all new pipes, new shoes and slave cyclinders
new shocks front and back and track rod ends
The Westy also comes with a BBT sun canopy and repo westy roof rack. I also have a westy front bunk that will fit with a bit of adjustment. I will also through in a 70's drive away awning. It also has an autocraft tow bar.
The interior has been snaded back and varnished, it did have speaker holes cut into the rear seat which I have repaired. In the cab it has its original seat covers but over new pads and padding. The rear has the original westy plaid material which is very rare in this condition. I have had the seat springs replaced with foam for a more comfortable sleep etc. I have the original bases to go with it plus some spare material.
The curtains are new and the closest I could get to the original material. It even has the original green linoleum over the engine in the back.
To do on it are a couple of bits as always. The bottom of both cargo doors need replacing, I have the schofield panels for this. The only other bit of rust is rear nearside corner where the inner shelf meets the panel.
But otherwise this is a very up to together splitty with all major jobs done, so is ready to use for the summer.
