For sale - VW Bus T2 1979 Westfalia Camper, EUR 27000

Ok, here it is. We’re thinking of letting our beloved Westy go to a new home. After a few years of reflection, mixed with hesitation and reluctance, we’ve finally arrived to the crossroads.

So, if you want to explore the world (like we have done) through a Bay Window in a Volkswagen Westfalia Campervan, this is a great opportunity.

The bus: manufactured in Hannover 1978, the models year is 1979 and like so many of these amazing camper vans it was exported to the U.S.A. We bought the bus from a school teacher, upstate New York. He gave the bus a professional paint job and new upholstery in the late 90s. Its American journey ended when we imported it back to Europe, to Stockholm, Sweden, where its home has been since 2009.

The bus is equipped with its original matching number engine, a 2.0 l type 4 ”pancake”. One of the first thing we did was a complete renovation of the engine. After that me and my wife and our three children gave the bus a real test. We took it for a ride through Europe for over 25 days. In 2011 we visited Germany (included Wolfsburg of course), France, Belgium, Holland and Denmark. Trough the years we’ve done several camping trips, mostly in Sweden.

The bus is equipped with a belted buddy seat which makes it possible to travel five people. Lots of more improvement are carried out during the years. The latest one was a professional restoration of the entire gearbox and a new electronic distributor. The engine is professionally tuned, it starts, shifts and runs like clockwork. I wouldn't hesitate to drive our bus anywhere. Furthermore an automatic fire extinguisher system is installed in the engine. Plus we bought a new Fiamma awning, just two years old. And I think we also got the original Westfalia tent in yellow/orange/blue, but no poles. And the Childs cot, the two bars to put over the front seats. And the original little stool pallet that goes between the front seats. And we include a portable fridge for 12V or AC/DC that fits perfect between the front seats.

Our Westfalia has been to many VW shows because of our books. Me and my wife, together with her sister and her former husband, are the creators of ”The Original VW Camper Cookbook” and ”VW Camper Cookbook Rides Again”. It started as a small family project and ended being a licensed Volkswagen merchandise sold in every VW dealers in Europe. We did lots of VW festivals back then, selling books, meeting, talking and partying with people that also had the same narrow, quirky interest for old Air Cooled Volkswagens. Good times.

But now our children have grown up. We just don’t use the bus like before anymore. Like it deserves.

Lots of history in our bus. Lots of paperwork, photos, stories that belongs to it.

The condition: it’s not mint of course. This is not your pampered trailer queen, newly come from a total restoration. But, it is a reliable, authentic, almost rust free, original VW Westfalia, probably one of the best in Sweden. It will bring attention and people smiling back at you where ever you go.
